Summer vacation you say? Over 100 teachers wrapped up last week by attending a full four days of professional learning around writing instruction or Google Apps For Education. Many staff, like myself, had time to explore options for creating websites and actually put our learning to immediate use. York Schools have moved away from the old server, First Class, and teachers have been asked to update their websites using other tools. I'm proud of the attendance at Summer Institute, especially the many staff from Village Elementary. For me, a great amount of new learning occurred and I am assured staff will be implementing their new learning in the upcoming school year.
With the warm weather and a week's worth of new learning, it was time to relax and enjoy a few days with my children. The past few days I was able to connect with two old high school friends and all our children on Pushaw Lake in Orono, Maine. We realized it was the first and probably the last time we might be able do that as one of my friends son's is entering his sophomore year in college and the other friend and her family lives in New York City. I feel blessed to continue to connect with such special friends and it was amazing to be with our children as if they all knew one another so well.
