It's certainly been devastating to drive around the Village and see the destruction that has taken place, but as I continually read the news that no one was harmed, I'm thankful for this. Here at Village Elementary, we experienced some devastation with trees, limbs, and downed wires, but thanks to the maintenance crew here and the York Parks and Rec department, the front lawn was quickly cleaned and downed lines and transformers were addressed as soon as possible. We do have about 15 trees that we will lose after clean up is finalized, many of them from Nature's Classroom.
As many of you know, we were fortunate to have Timberland provide us with a grant and the service to purchase and install a greenhouse last spring. Fortunately, this greenhouse was not harmed. In fact, after a week's vacation, I entered the greenhouse on Wednesday morning shocked at the amount of growth, especially the tomato plants! Fallen limbs surrounded the perimeter, but none punctured the plastic or harmed the structure!
I wish each family and community member well as the clean up in York continues and I thank the many families that contacted me at VES to see if we needed help cleaning up. As you've heard me say numerous times before, I am extremely thankful to work with such a supporting community!
May you all continue to enjoy this glorious summer weather and may we all avoid any future microbursts!
